"What do you do as a school
principal?" Many students
have asked me this question. Ideallistically, I should be
playing the following roles:: 1. A
leader
who must work closely with the other
educational leaders in the school, that is, all my colleagues, to lead the
school for the best benefits of our students. I believe
that "successful schools do
not happen by accident, they are the results of many people planning
together, working together, and taking shared responsibility for the
success of all students." I
anticipate all the teachers of KYD to work professionally in collaboration
with each other towards excellence. 2. A
manager
who can work hand in hand with my
colleagues to ensure that resources (including human, financial, time,
place, physical, etc.) are properly used and maintained to provide a safe
and properly equipped learning and working environment. 3.
A
teacher who can faciliate the
learning of my students whenever I have an opportunity. Though I may
not be actually teaching a subject, I should never forget my role as a
teacher. 4. A
learner
who should keep on updating myself
with the necessary knowledge and skills that are useful in school
improvement. I
also believe that I have the responsibility to develop the school into a
'learning school' in which all the staff and students are real life-long
learners. 5.
A
'public-relationship officer
' who can maintain a good connection
between the school and the external world such that a good school image
can be built up among the general public and the school can be integrated
into the community.
As a new
principal in a well established school, there is much that I need to learn
about the school. I shall keep my doors opened to all teachers and
students, who are willing to share with me their experiences and who want
to know more about me.
I have
great expectation for the students of KYD, both the current ones and the
Alumni. I believe that you are the real asset of the school,
what you say and do will affect the school significantly. The school
will flourish and sustain only if you all contibute your share of
responsibility.
