Nine KYD students joined a voluntary programme called ‘Let’s Shop at a Discount’,
organised by eight Youth Community Centres in Tai Po. The programme’s main goal was to
reach out to families in need in Tai Po, and in the process, hone the organisational skills of
volunteers and cultivate their sense of belonging to society.
Starting from October, nine volunteers visited and interviewed different eateries in Tai
Po. They also helped these eateries make promotional videos and put them on social media
in order to raise awareness of the programme itself and of the different eateries available in
Tai Po.
This programme is going to continue until January.
Student's Feedback
Due to COVID-19, a lot of social service programmes had to cancelled. Therefore, we were very happy to have received this opportunity to serve the owners of different eateries and Tai Po residents. While we were talking to them, we were touched by their heartwarming stories and experience. When we tried their food and beverages, the efforts they put into making every dish was obvious, and we could really feel their enthusiasm and commitment to making the community a better place. We hop the pandemic will be over soon so that all Hong Kong people can resume their normal lives, and these eateries will once again be able to share their food with the entire community.
