Our school’s STEM Education Department invited representatives from the "Coral Academy" of The Chinese University of Hong Kong to deliver an inspiring and captivating talk titled "The Story of Coral Cultivation".
During the talk, the speaker guided our students on an in-depth exploration into the mysteries of Hong Kong’s rich marine ecosystem and stony corals. In the face of a local coral crisis exacerbated by urban development and climate change, the speaker shared the Coral Academy team's cutting-edge scientific restoration strategies. These ranged from asexual and sexual reproduction to micro-fragmentation and fusion technologies. The speaker also introduced the innovative 3D-printed artificial coral reefs jointly developed with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This talk not only broadened our students' scientific horizons but also inspired everyone to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature, encouraging us to join hands in protecting our beautiful oceans and coral ecosystems.
